About the Role

As a Water/Wastewater Operator II, you will operate, inspect, maintain, and repair the City’s water supply, treatment, distribution systems, and wastewater treatment and collection facilities. Work includes:

  • Inspecting and repairing wells, reservoirs, pumping stations, meters, chlorination systems, wastewater pump stations, gauges, pumps, filters, valves, and other treatment equipment
  • Maintaining water quality by collecting and testing water and wastewater samples in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements
  • Monitoring treatment plant equipment, gauges, and operational charts; recording and analyzing plant data; evaluating test results; and preparing required reports
  • Performing quality-control testing on laboratory equipment and analyses
  • Calibrating, modifying, or repairing instrumentation, flow meters, recorders, and other water-quality monitoring equipment
  • Locating water and wastewater lines, responding to leaks or service interruptions, and communicating with residents and businesses about disruptions
  • Repairing water mains and service connections, and operating construction and power equipment
  • Participating in a rotational on-call schedule for utility emergencies outside regular working hours

Most work is performed outdoors or in the field under varying weather conditions. Safety, sound judgment, technical accuracy, attention to detail, and dependable service are essential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three years of experience related to construction, maintenance, or repair
  • Current TCEQ Class C Groundwater Operator License and Class C Wastewater Treatment Operator License
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain a Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License within six months of employment
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding fieldwork for extended periods
  • Experience with water and wastewater sampling, testing, data collection, and operational recordkeeping
  • Ability to work around mechanical, electrical, chemical, confined-space, and other utility-related hazards
  • Proficiency with common hand tools, power tools, motorized vehicles, laboratory equipment, and construction equipment

The ideal candidate is an experienced, safety-conscious utility professional with:

  • Technical knowledge of water and wastewater operations, maintenance, testing, and repair
  • Ability to evaluate system conditions, identify operational concerns, interpret test results, and respond to utility service issues
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, mathematical skills, and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience with laboratory procedures, instrumentation, construction equipment, and utility infrastructure
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with coworkers, departments, regulatory agencies, residents, and business owners

Pay

Annual salary of $54,735.
