About the role
The Water & Wastewater Operator at OCWA will use their skills to operate and maintain facilities within the region. This includes managing wastewater treatment processes, performing routine maintenance, and responding to emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain water and wastewater facilities
- Perform routine preventive maintenance
- Take samples, interpret results, and make process control adjustments
- Liaise with coworkers, clients, and suppliers
- Respond to on-call shifts and emergencies
Requirements
- Mandatory Operator-in-Training (OIT) to Class IV certificate or license: Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment and Collection, Water Distribution and Supply, (as per O. Reg. 128/04)
- Valid Class G driver’s license
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes
- Working experience/knowledge of the skilled trades for the maintenance and repair of various equipment and structures
- Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant regulatory and legislative acts, codes, policies, guidelines and procedures
- Good knowledge of basic mathematics and chemistry
- Ability to interpret maintenance manuals, blueprints, and other technical specifications

- Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative
- Ability to perform manual labor
Skills
- Analytical, problem-solving, planning and scheduling skills
- Basic electrical repair, welding, plumbing, millwright, and instrumentation skills
- Computer literacy and familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems

Pay
The salary range for this position is $24.88 to $31.06 CAD per hour, based on the certification held at the time of hire and progressing internally upon obtaining higher-level certifications/licenses.
Schedule
Operators may need to work flexible hours, including overtime and on-call shifts.
