About the Role

Under the direction of the Water/Wastewater Superintendent, this role supervises, directs, and coordinates installation, repair, and maintenance tasks for water distribution and wastewater collection systems, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with established trade methods and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assume the role of Water/Wastewater Superintendent as required.
  • Collaborate with the Water/Wastewater Superintendent to optimize employee and resource utilization.
  • Assist with project preparation and ensure timely completion of work.
  • Plan, organize, assign, and supervise the work of water utilities personnel, including daily schedules and special projects.
  • Oversee safety training, tasks, and employee advancement.
  • Investigate incidents involving employees and ensure project safety.
  • Read and interpret utility maps, record drawings, asset data, maintenance manuals, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other Foremen to plan and complete required work.
  • Oversee purchasing of equipment, parts, and supplies for inventory or immediate use.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Work outside normal hours to address water utility problems, including emergency call-ins at any time.
  • Collaborate with other departments, contractors, and regulatory agencies to coordinate activities and resolve problems.
  • Maintain and diagnose issues within water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Notify appropriate authorities during emergency situations.
  • Ensure compliance with TCEQ and other applicable standards and regulations.
  • Follow safety instructions and maintain housekeeping procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Valid Class “A” CDL Texas Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement.
  • Three or more years’ experience in water utilities.
  • TCEQ Class C water distribution license.
  • TCEQ Class II wastewater collection license.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of lead or supervisory experience in water utilities.
  • TCEQ Class B water distribution license.
  • TCEQ Class III wastewater collection license.
  • TCEQ Customer service inspector license.

Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of water utility maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to supervise crews and assess employee performance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Cityworks software.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer applications.
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stress effectively without performance interference.
  • Conflict resolution skills.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Class “A” CDL Texas Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement.
  • TCEQ Class C water distribution license.
  • TCEQ Class II wastewater collection license.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards, including hazardous chemicals, raw sewage, communicable diseases, loud or constant noise, electricity, humidity, wetness, extreme temperatures, heights, odors, gases, mists, confined spaces, climbing ladders, and cramped spaces.
  • Subject to 24-hour call-out, 365 days per year.

Pay

Pay range depends on qualifications and experience.
