About the role

We are seeking a qualified individual to lead and manage hydrologic, hydraulic, and stormwater analysis and design as part of our Civil Engineering Design Department in North Carolina. Projects will primarily involve engineering for roadway/highway, municipal projects, and pedestrian (greenways, multi-use trails) projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage water resources, hydraulic, and stormwater projects
  • Manage team’s workload, staff, and schedules
  • Lead design of stream crossings, drainage systems, stormwater control, and erosion control for a wide range of transportation-related and municipal projects
  • Manage hydrologic and hydraulic modeling in HEC-RAS and other modeling tools
  • Manage preparation of MOA, CLOMR, and LOMR packages
  • Manage hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and oversee report generation
  • Support flood resiliency and stormwater master planning studies
  • Oversee project/contracting scoping, fee development, contract negotiations, and execution
  • Attend public meetings and make presentations as needed
  • Train support staff and review work
  • Support marketing of water resources, hydraulic, and stormwater services to new and existing clients in collaboration with our business development team
  • Assist with project pursuits by providing technical expertise on proposals and marketing meetings

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive hydraulic and stormwater design experience
  • PE license in North Carolina or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling with step backwater programs (HEC-RAS) and knowledge of FEMA requirements
  • Experience with modeling open channel and closed pipe systems
  • Experience in drainage design, stormwater management practices and regulations, stormwater design, and erosion control designs
  • Knowledge of NCDOT design standards and practices and experience in project development workflow
  • Proactive and self-motivated attitude
  • Experience with managing and organizing multiple tasks and related disciplines
  • Strong engineering analysis and judgment
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience in staff and project management
  • Experience managing and training support staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Experience with PCSWMM or similar platform

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microstation, Geopak, Geopak Drainage, and Open Roads Designer
  • SCM and/or GSI design experience
  • Stream restoration design experience
  • Stormwater master planning experience
  • CFM certification
  • Floodplain mapping experience
  • NCDOT, SCDOT, and VDOT design experience
