Water Resources Hydrogeologist/Engineer

About the Role

EKI Environment & Water, Inc. (EKI) is an employee-owned, full-service engineering and environmental sciences consulting firm serving private- and public-sector clients throughout the United States. This position supports water resources projects from initial planning through feasibility analyses, design, implementation, and completion. Projects may include aquifer characterization, water budgets, groundwater-flow and constituent transport modeling, water supply planning, production well design, water transfer support, indirect and direct potable reuse planning, and litigation support.

Responsibilities

• Develop and/or implement hydrogeologic conceptual models, water balances, and numerical models to assess groundwater availability
• Prepare reports and studies, including groundwater sustainability plans, water supply assessments, urban water management plans, water supply strategies, water transfers, and water conservation programs
• Assist with field investigations including site visits, water level and quality data collection, well installation, and aquifer testing while adhering to EKI’s Health and Safety policies
• Prepare clear, well-written documents and presentations that communicate complex technical issues
• Support project managers and senior staff with the preparation of proposals, cost estimates, project schedules, and progress reports
• Other duties as required

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a hydrogeologist or engineer for water resources projects
• Active professional licensure or certification in Texas is preferred, including:
  • Professional Geoscientist (PG)
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT)
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
• Technical knowledge in numerical groundwater modeling (e.g., MODFLOW), water resources planning, groundwater availability investigations, data management and visualization, ArcGIS, and technical writing
• Proficiency with Python is preferred
• Knowledge of and experience with Texas groundwater regulations, water data sources, groundwater availability models, and regional water planning processes is preferred
• OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate and coordinate with EKI staff, clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public
• Ability to multi-task, stay organized, work independently, and collaborate with various project teams
• Demonstrated time management skills, strong work ethic, and attention to detail
• Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and continuous learning

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with high-volume workload and frequent short deadlines
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
• Must be able to work while remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
• Must be able to communicate and exchange information with others in person, on calls, and in virtual meetings

Location & Travel

This position is ideally based in Houston, Texas or Austin, Texas. Candidates based elsewhere in Texas or in other locations may be considered.

• Must be able to travel occasionally, possibly overnight for client meetings and site visits up to 20% of the time
• Must have a current valid driver’s license
