Water Resources Engineer

Job Description This Opportunity WSP is seeking a highly motivated experienced Water Resources Engineer to join our team in our Tucson, AZ; Lakewood, CO or Lander, WY offices. Other WSP locations may be considered for the right candidate. Be involved in projects with our US Mine Water and Environment team Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. #GlobalMining You will be engaged with multiple mining projects nationally and globally in providing stormwater management solutions. Tasks will include hydraulic and hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil design, fieldwork, project planning, data analysis, design, drawing support, and construction support. The ideal candidate will have effective verbal and written communication skills and will take ownership in delivering quality project deliverables to support engineering observations, calculations, methods, conclusions and recommendations for engineering and design projects. Your Impact Perform specific portions of broader projects under the supervision of an experienced engineerCollaborate with cross-functional teams to provide stormwater management solutions for mining facilities for existing and potential clientsConduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil designPrepare detailed calculation packages including proper documentation and referencesAssist with the development of technical reports, drawings and specificationsPrepare reservoir and pond designs including outlet works and spillway designsDesign channels and energy dissipation structures that include concrete, riprap, articulated concrete block, fabric-formed concrete, and baffle blocksWork with CAD designers to produce drawings from conceptual to construction-level design including grading and drainage plans, profiles, details, and sectionsPerform work in accordance with an agreed upon scope, budget, and scheduleInteract with clients, subcontractors, and other business partners in a confident and professional mannerApply critical thinking skills to help solve complex problemsCollaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to complete design, operational optimization, and closure assessments for large mining operationsExercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental engineering Engineer in Training Certification and the desire to pursue a professional engineering license3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in water resources engineering including experience creating engineering designs and hydrologic and hydraulics modelsExperience with industry software programs (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and AutoCAD Civil 3D)Demonstrates high level skills in utilizing computer software and applications to solve complex engineering problems.Proficient knowledge of stormwater evaluation and design engineering principles, practices, process (e.g., hydrologic analysis, hydraulic analysis, stormwater management design)Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles.Experience producing high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects including technical memorandums and reportsExcellent attention to detail, with the ability to quickly recognize significant discrepancies and logic errorsStrong knowledge of Microsoft ExcelWillingness and ability to listen carefully to instructions, assimilate large amounts of information, and adapt to changes quickly.Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.Ability to work independently and in a team environmentAbility to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek or standard work day.Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and anti-harassment policies.Ability and willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Western United States and internationally depending on project-specific requirements. Preferred Qualifications Experience using grading tools within Civil 3D in parallel with engineering calculations to design hydraulic structuresExperience with frequency storm and probable maximum precipitation hydrologic analysesExperience with hydraulic analyses and design of channels, culverts, bridges, flow measurement, and flood mappingExperience interpreting hydrological and climate dataExperience analyzing and processing geospatial data using ArcPro or AutoCAD.Master’s Degree in Engineering with a focus on Hydrology/HydraulicsPrevious work experience in the mining sectorField/Construction experience, basic First Aid and Adult CPR, and/or MSHA training desired. Compensation Expected Salary (Colorado only): $75,600 - $110,700 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
