Water quality operator
About the role
The WATER QUALITY OPERATOR position at Daphne Utilities involves operating, monitoring, and maintaining water treatment plant systems and related equipment to ensure the provision of high-quality drinking water for public use.
Responsibilities
- Operate various machinery, equipment, and tools associated with plant operations, including a utility truck, volumetric dry feeder, induction motor, chlorinator, vertical centrifugal pump, vertical turbine pump, metering pump, drum pump, SCADA monitoring system, digital cylinder scale, generator, air compressor, meters, gauges, spectrophotometer, scales, laboratory paraphernalia, self-contained breathing apparatus, drill, grinder, diagnostic instruments, mechanic tools, carpentry tools, valve wrenches, hand tools, testing materials, radio communications equipment, or general office equipment.
- Operate a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; verify accuracy of entered data and make corrections; utilize word processing, spreadsheet, database, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, Internet, e-mail, or other computer applications.
- Proficiently read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
- Travel throughout the Baldwin County area regularly and out of town occasionally.
- Perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, percentages).
- Use hands, fingers, and wrists repetitively, using a keyboard.
- Stand and walk around regularly, both inside and outside, sometimes in inclement weather and on uneven terrain.
- Lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects and materials in excess of 50 lbs.
- Work some overtime, holidays, and weekends.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED;
- Vocational/technical training in water treatment plant operations;
- Two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving water treatment plant operations, SCADA system operations, and equipment maintenance;
- Valid Alabama Grade II Water Treatment Plant Operator License within 12 months;
- Valid Alabama driver’s license and insurability;
- Pass a Drug Screen and criminal background check.
Qualifications
Must be able to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages.
Skills
Must be able to use hands, fingers and wrist repetitively, using a keyboard.
