Water Quality Laboratory Program Manager
About the role
The Water Quality Laboratory Program Manager at California Water Service Group (Cal Water) is responsible for managing all laboratory water quality databases for daily operations. This role ensures compliance with TNI & ELAP regulations and serves as a super-user of the LIMS platform, supporting Water Quality and Laboratory related special projects.
Responsibilities
- Manages the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), including recommending upgrades, creating reports, and providing user training
- Maintains the integrity of the LIMS application for all users and manages LIMS related projects
- Supports Water Quality and Laboratory related special projects
- Serves as Company-wide subject matter expert on all things related to the Laboratory Information Management system
- Executes a strategic data management plan for water quality and other related laboratory special projects
- Prepares special reports for senior management, districts, and regulatory agencies using LIMS
- Works closely with water quality personnel, vendors, and IT professionals to understand needs and maximize system potential
- Trains applicable Company personnel on LIMS, related WQ databases, water quality regulations, and other water quality-related topics
- Communicates with regulators, operators, technical staff, and customers
- Works with IT team to resolve networking issues and participate in disaster recovery exercises
- Provides guidance on LIMS problem-solving and regulatory compliance
- Supports the Company's Continuous Improvement program and projects
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
- Three years of experience working in water quality compliance
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Valid California Driver License
Qualifications
- Knowledge of state and federal water quality regulations and laboratory regulations
- Knowledge of water systems treatment and distribution practices
- Knowledge of water quality sampling, test methods, chain of custody documentation, and compliance standards
- Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications to create presentations, spreadsheets, and Word documents
- Knowledge of the Laboratory Information Manager System (LIMS)
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Organizational and time management skills
- Project management skills
- Problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills
- Flexible and able to prioritize work
Skills
- Strong knowledge of water quality regulations and laboratory practices
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders
- Proven ability to manage and maintain complex systems
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Benefits
California Water Service offers a competitive salary range of $102,000 - $189,400 (DOE), along with comprehensive benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
