Water Polo Coach

About the role

Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for swimmers on the water polo team. Requires thorough knowledge of water polo fundamentals to teach local youth, including treading water, passing, shooting, offensive and defensive play, while maintaining a safe, controlled, and fun environment aligned with core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Coaches and instructs swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines, preparing practices and workouts accordingly.
• Teaches skills including treading water, passing, shooting, and teamwork; teaches fundamentals of offensive and defensive play.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Supports DEIB initiatives and practices equity, diversity, belonging, and inclusion; contributes to organizational diversity goals.
• Conveys information on the water polo team, aquatics programs, and schedules; attends practices and games as required.
• Maintains records such as attendance, water polo agenda, and reports.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and safety procedures.
• Completes incident and accident reports as necessary; organizes and stores water polo equipment; reports damaged equipment.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 18.
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen.
• Commitment to supporting and advancing anti-racist work; understanding of organizational initiatives and ability to discuss with members when needed.
• USA Water Polo Certification.
• Knowledge of water polo rules and regulations; familiarity with competition management.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups across social and economic segments.
• Physical ability to instruct and observe proper stroke technique and lift equipment.
