What Your Day Will Look Like
As a Water CAD Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the design and delivery of water, wastewater, and treatment plant infrastructure projects that enhance and sustain communities. Working closely with project managers, engineers, designers, and multidisciplinary teams, you will provide high-quality drafting and design support throughout all phases of project development, from planning and conceptual design through detailed engineering, permitting, and construction documentation. In this role, you will contribute to a diverse range of municipal infrastructure projects including water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, pump stations, treatment facilities, utility relocations, and related site development improvements. You will leverage your expertise in Autodesk Civil 3D to develop accurate engineering drawings, coordinate design information, and support efficient project delivery. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and collaborative professional with strong Civil 3D skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced consulting environment and is looking to continue growing their technical capabilities within the water infrastructure industry.
What You'll Do
- Prepare, revise, and maintain detailed engineering drawings and construction documents for water, wastewater, and treatment plant projects, including plan and profile sheets, utility layouts, grading plans, site improvements, and process piping drawings.
- Develop preliminary, intermediate, and final design plan sets in collaboration with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to support project planning, permitting, bidding, and construction.
- Utilize Autodesk Civil 3D to create and modify alignments, surfaces, grading models, utility networks, and corridor elements associated with water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Review engineering calculations, sketches, markups, specifications, and survey information to produce accurate and constructible design documents.
- Aid in the preparation of utility plans, pump station site layouts, treatment plant improvements, drainage plans, erosion control plans, and permitting exhibits.
- Generate supporting engineering documentation including quantity takeoffs, project exhibits, details, schedules, and record drawing updates.
- Perform quality control reviews of drawings and plan sets to ensure drafting accuracy, consistency, and compliance with client standards, municipal requirements, and industry best practices.
- Cook up with survey, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teams to integrate design elements and resolve conflicts throughout project development.
- Support project delivery efforts by maintaining drawing standards, managing revisions, and assisting with project closeout documentation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to CAD standards, workflows, and design efficiency.
What You'll Need
- 4–8 years of CAD drafting and design experience supporting civil infrastructure, water/wastewater, municipal, or utility projects.
- Strong proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD, including experience developing surfaces, grading models, utility networks, plan and profile sheets, and construction plan sets.
- Experience producing engineering drawings for water distribution, wastewater collection, treatment plants, pump stations, utility infrastructure, or municipal public works projects.
- Understanding of civil engineering design principles, construction documents, and permitting requirements.
- Ability to interpret engineering calculations, technical specifications, and design standards.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary project teams.
