Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the facility’s wastewater treatment systems. This role is critical in supporting production activities by maintaining environmental compliance, protecting company assets, and ensuring the plant meets all local, state, and federal wastewater regulations. This position will be working with sensitive information therefore it will require an NDA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment equipment including pumps, screens, tanks, clarifiers, and chemical feed systems.
  • Operate and monitor the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) system
  • Collect and analyze wastewater samples; record, interpret, and report results to ensure compliance with discharge permits and environmental standards.
  • Perform daily rounds and inspections of equipment to detect malfunctions, leaks, or abnormal conditions.
  • Adjust chemical feed rates, flows, and processes to optimize treatment performance.
  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and regulatory documentation as required by environmental agencies.
  • Troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical and electrical issues, coordinate with maintenance for larger repairs.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and usage of chemicals and other materials.
  • Collaborate with production teams to forecast and manage wastewater loads.
  • Participate in safety training and follow all company and regulatory safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must be TEEX Certified as a Certified Water Professional (CWP) in Wastewater Track and hold a TCEQ Wastewater Operator License Class B (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe).
  • Experience working in Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) and Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) systems is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 35 years’ experience in wastewater treatment operations, ideally in a manufacturing or food/beverage facility.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot pumps, valves, instrumentation, and process systems.
  • Knowledge of wastewater regulations, compliance reporting, and laboratory testing methods.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and respond effectively to emergencies.
  • A flexible schedule: Onsite 6 hours per day, 5 days a week (MF) and must be available to be on call 24/7 for remote oversight of shift workers.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with SCADA systems is a plus.
  • Fluency in English is required, Spanish is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is performed primarily in a manufacturing and production environment within a beverage manufacturing facility. The work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, automated and manual production equipment, wet or humid conditions, temperature variations, and moderate to high noise levels. Employees may be required to work on elevated work surfaces, platforms, ladders, or stairs, and in or around confined or restricted spaces in accordance with applicable safety procedures and training. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and must be worn at all times while on the production floor or in designated work areas, in accordance with OSHA standards and company safety policies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, balance, push, pull, and use hands and arms to operate machinery, tools, and equipment. The role involves repetitive motions, sustained physical activity, and maintaining situational awareness in a dynamic production environment. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. Work schedules may include extended shifts, overtime, weekends, and/or holidays based on production demands.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
