About the role

The role of a mechanical engineer is to work independently on smaller and larger projects, as a lead or team member under the guidance of a senior engineer. You should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project, and will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, design sketches and concepts, report preparation and field work.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all process mechanical systems or products for a project.
  • Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Utilize technologies in development of three-dimensional models of process mechanical systems and providing markups for junior engineers/designers.
  • Prepare and revise documentation in various project phases including facility layouts, diagrams, details and assisting with P&ID development.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
  • Assist senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of the project specifications and construction/contract documents.
  • Perform and oversee hydraulics, thermodynamics, and various mechanical calculations related to Water projects.
  • Utilize advanced techniques for the analysis of specialized process mechanical systems and alternatives related to Water Projects.
  • Conduct constructability reviews.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the process mechanical group.
  • Works on multiple projects with multiple disciplines.

Requirements

  • Have a working understanding of treatment and solids management strategies at WTPs and WRRFs.
  • Have experience writing preliminary engineering reports, specs, and procurement documents.
  • Have an understanding of Nevada and Las Vegas-area permitting processes.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in wastewater treatment.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Nevada, or ability to obtain within six months of hire, is required.
