About the role
The role of a mechanical engineer is to work independently on smaller and larger projects, as a lead or team member under the guidance of a senior engineer. You should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project, and will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, design sketches and concepts, report preparation and field work.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all process mechanical systems or products for a project.
- Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Utilize technologies in development of three-dimensional models of process mechanical systems and providing markups for junior engineers/designers.
- Prepare and revise documentation in various project phases including facility layouts, diagrams, details and assisting with P&ID development.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
- Assist senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of the project specifications and construction/contract documents.
- Perform and oversee hydraulics, thermodynamics, and various mechanical calculations related to Water projects.
- Utilize advanced techniques for the analysis of specialized process mechanical systems and alternatives related to Water Projects.
- Conduct constructability reviews.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
- Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the process mechanical group.
- Works on multiple projects with multiple disciplines.
Requirements
- Have a working understanding of treatment and solids management strategies at WTPs and WRRFs.
- Have experience writing preliminary engineering reports, specs, and procurement documents.
- Have an understanding of Nevada and Las Vegas-area permitting processes.
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in wastewater treatment.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Nevada, or ability to obtain within six months of hire, is required.
