Wastewater Plant Supervisor I
Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, seeks a Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor to join our team. This role is based in our eight-state footprint, focusing on the efficient, compliant, and economical operation of wastewater treatment facilities.
About the role
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor reports to the Area Manager and is responsible for various aspects of wastewater treatment operations. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with regulations, managing budgets, supervising staff, and maintaining quality processes.
Essential Duties
- Comply with federal, state, and local regulations regarding wastewater treatment.
- Develop and implement capital and operational budgets for wastewater facilities.
- Schedule personnel and assign tasks to ensure efficient operation.
- Create and enforce procedures for process control and facility standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Train and supervise Wastewater Plant Department employees.
- Ensure compliance with the Chemical Hygiene Plan.
- Attend and present at departmental meetings.
- Submit regulatory reports such as MOR’s, DMR’s, RDC’s, and turbidity reports.
- Investigate plant upsets and implement corrective actions.
- Support other departments including Customer Service, Wastewater Collection, and administrative staff.
- Assist with other tasks or projects as needed.
Qualifications
- At least three (3) years of experience operating in a wastewater treatment facility or similar experience.
- Significant experience in wastewater operations and laboratory procedures.
- Possession of a Class 3 Wastewater Operator’s License from the State of Indiana (Class 4 preferred).
- Knowledge of NPDES limits for wastewater quality and treatment facility regulations.
- Thorough understanding of laboratory regulations and quality control procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent, with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- A valid Indiana driver’s license is required.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents.
- Subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation.
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to maneuver and navigate uneven surfaces, steps, stairs, ladders, platforms, and restricted isle-ways and walk-ways.
