Overview

The Wasterwater Operator Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, operation, and inspection of assigned facility processes, structures, compressor stations and plant utility areas such as water, air, and nitrogen.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, and repair equipment and machinery.
  • Perform routine tank or vessel cleaning and minor mechanical, plumbing, and pump repairs of utility systems using a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Operate forklifts, skid loaders, and vehicles required to maintain the facility.
  • Monitor, inspect and adjust a full range of equipment using manual and automated controls such as PLC, DCS, or SCADA as well as hands on work to troubleshoot, maintain, modify, or correct problems.
  • Observe and record readings on gauges, meters, and charts to register the aspects of facility process and utility systems.
  • Perform sampling and testing to control process quality, and maintain operating logs, lab sheets or other documentation for regulatory compliance.
  • Report process deviations, variances, and inventory levels to appropriate personnel, interact as required with other staff, agencies, vendors, and outside contractors.
  • Notify supervision if additional attention or repairs are needed.
  • Maintain spare parts and chemical inventory.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, plus specific training in plant utilities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic math and written / oral communication.
  • Work safely under general supervision, follow written procedures and verbal instructions, perform journey-level work, and manage time to complete assignments.
  • Computer experience including email, payroll time entry and online training.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in a technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate degree or higher in specialized technology applicable to water treatment facility.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Knowledge of equipment and types of chemicals used in water treatment.
  • Five years journeyman level experience in a relevant field or equivalent experience in a commercial or industrial facility.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products, Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations.

Other Requirements

  • Good attendance, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Able to follow oral / written instructions and exercise good judgement to complete assignments on time.
  • Able to assist others by training / mentoring, teamwork, troubleshooting repairs, and installing new equipment.
  • Able to escort and monitor work performed by outside vendors in accordance with facility requirements.
  • Able to complete and return required administrative paperwork as directed.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license and demonstrate a good driving record.
  • Pass a post-offer, pre-placement drug test, physical examination, and medical history check.
  • Pass a pre-employment criminal background check and have a clean motor vehicle report (MVR).

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Work environment involves some exposure or risk to physical hazards which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Constant use of vision and mental alertness is required working in all types of weather (heat, humidity, sub-zero cold).
  • Able to perform all the typical repetitive physical requirements found in a warehouse position such as: walking, pushing, pulling, handling, grasping, kneeling, working overhead.
  • Able to work in awkward positions for extended periods of time or in confined spaces.
  • Able to carry or lift 20 pounds (and occasionally up to 50 pounds), or work at heights, climb stairs, ladders, scaffolds, and use scissor or aerial lifts.
  • Able to read, write and speak fluent English to respond to visual and audible alarms.

Integrated Safety And Environmental Requirements

  • Observe and follow all corporate, federal, state and site environmental safety and health (ES&H) policies and procedures that pertain to the job classification being performed.
  • Perform only those tasks in which you have the required training, competence, knowledge, skills, and abilities to prevent injury.
  • Hazard and situational awareness for ES&H risks associated with the work.
  • Perform work safely in accordance with hazard controls.
  • Report all unsafe operations, and, if necessary, exercise stop-work authority in any situation posing imminent or danger to oneself, other personnel, the environment, or the facility.
  • Must wear proper PPE as required and ensure PPE is in acceptable condition.
  • Keep office space, operating area, control room, mechanical room, warehouse etc. clean and orderly.
  • Attend all safety meetings, participate in ES&H/ISM program activities, and stay current with assigned required training.

Hours of Work

  • Typical shift is 8 hours per day, M-F daylight schedule, and must be able to occasionally work after hours on nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Schedule is determined by the company and business needs.
