About the role
The City of Oxnard's Wastewater Division is seeking a Wastewater Operator I to work with team members within the operations group as well as the Maintenance, Collections, and Laboratory staff. Under general supervision, the Wastewater Operator I performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the monitoring, operation, and minor maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment facilities and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Monitors plant and field processes including solids processing; monitors computer alarms, instruments, gauges, and meters for process control.
- Keeps operation logs and records, including meter and gage readings.
- Collections samples and performs routine biological and chemical tests/analyses, record sampling and test results, and prepares samples for testing in the central laboratory as needed.
- Performs general plant, building and ground preventative maintenance, cleaning, and housekeeping duties.
- Operates treatment systems and related processes; performs minor facility and equipment maintenance; monitors plant and field processes and equipment including alarms, instruments and gauges; checks pumps, motors, hydraulic lines, structures, pressure tanks and mechanical equipment for proper operation; collects samples and performs routine biological and chemical testing; operates heavy equipment.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Experience: One (1) year of treatment plant operations experience.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record; Certifications in First Aid/CPR and the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) are required within 12 months of hire; Valid California State Water Resources Control Board Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate upon hire; Valid California State Water Resources Control Board Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate within 12 months of hire; Valid California State Water Resources Control Board Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate within 24 months of hire.

Benefits
- Educational Incentive: A 2.5% increase in base wages for completing 30 work-related college semester units above the minimum education requirements for the position.
- Tuition Reimbursement: Full-time employees receive reimbursement of educational expenses up to $500.00 per fiscal year.
- Certification Pay: The City will pay one hundred dollars ($100) per pay period differential to employees who receive a Treatment Certificate T3, T4, TS, a Distribution Operator Certificate, D3, D4, D5, or a Wastewater Operator Certificate Grade III, IV, V, or a Collections Systems Maintenance Certification Grade III that is at least one (1) level above the minimum requirement of the classification they are occupying.
Pay
$75,591.78 - $92,298.54 Annually
