About the role

The Wastewater Electrical Technician II position provides 24-hour coverage 7 days a week, maintaining and repairing electrical equipment necessary for safe continuous operations of wastewater treatment plants and lift stations. The incumbent must have a working knowledge of the wastewater process and handle wastewater safely.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and complete minor repairs on electrical switch gear, motor control centers, electrical equipment, devices, VFD’s, etc. throughout the wastewater facilities.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and needs for adjustment or repair, as well as to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Interpret and utilize schematic diagrams for trouble shooting and update diagrams as necessary for accuracy.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Research equipment operation problems, identify cause of primary failure and implement corrective action under supervision.
  • Operate and maintain power delivery systems.
  • Operate various types of power and hand tools including, but not limited to, pipe cutter/bender, saws, grinders, shears, and hydraulic or pneumatic equipment; operate all types of stationary and mobile equipment such as fork lifts, cranes, hoists and trucks in and around wastewater facilities.
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment; place conduit and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits.
  • Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights, generators, placing flares, and driving needed vehicles; advise management immediately if continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Assist and perform rack out of high voltage equipment (480 to 4160) as needed to perform repairs.
  • Absorb and perform manual operations of equipment as needed.
  • Communicate, request, and apply Lock-Out-Tag-Out to equipment for repair and/or maintenance.
  • Perform other housekeeping duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience as an electrician, electronic technician or trade school program.
  • Up to two 2 years of education at a college, trade school, or equivalent may be substituted for experience.
  • Ability to find the root cause of issues and think logically about solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of the National Electric Code.
  • Documented Lock-Out-Tag-Out training.
  • Documented Training in Arc Flash procedures.
  • General electrical and SCADA system knowledge.
  • The ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • The ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Pass a heat stress test if requested.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Able to work overtime as circumstances require and share on-call responsibilities.
  • Maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License.

Qualifications

Pay

$46.06 hourly rate

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 0700 AM EST - 0330 PM EST; could also be 600 AM EST to 230 PM EST depending on the area; overtime opportunities are available.
