Position Summary
Evaluate, maintain and repair wastewater collection, distribution and treatment systems and related facilities and equipment, including lift stations and pumps; assist with maintenance of collection and distribution infrastructure.
Essential Functions
- Evaluate, maintain and repair wastewater collection, distribution and treatment systems and related facilities and equipment, including lift station, wet wells and pumps;
- Assist with maintenance of collection and distribution infrastructure.
- Maintain and repair pumping equipment, including automatic control valves and related control systems;
- Maintain, repair and clean pipe lines.
- Operate jet-vacuum truck and high pressure hoses to clean line and manholes and to open stoppages; remove grease and debris from manholes.
- Operate mechanical power rodder and other equipment in order to clean plugged sewer lines and remove obstructions from wastewater drainage systems.
- Inspect and determine proper operating levels of sewer lines through the operation and use of closed circuit television cameras and equipment.
- Excavate, repair or replace valves, lift station lines and sewer lines.
- Locate sewer lines for contractors and utilities; raise manholes covered by street overlay projects; respond to emergency call-out as necessary.
- Operate a variety of related equipment, including a jet truck, closed-circuit television vehicle and equipment, backhoe, dump truck, power and hand rodder, jackhammer and a variety of hand and power tools.
- Operate and maintain City maintained lift stations; perform preventive maintenance and clean wet wells.
- Assist water and street department personnel with repairs and maintenance of water line breaks and cleaning storm drains as assigned.
- Maintain records related to lift stations and collection system maintenance and repair activities.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess, or obtain within 6 months of employment, valid commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements;
- Must possess, or obtain within 18 months of employment, valid Idaho Class I Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification.
Working Conditions
- City sewers, lift stations, and wastewater treatment plant;
- Outdoor work environment, subject to seasonal heat and cold and extreme weather conditions.
- Physical activities include hand and finger dexterity to operate vehicles, equipment and tools, driving a vehicle to conduct work, lifting (15-80 pounds), walking over rough or uneven surfaces, seeing to observe collection system condition and perform repairs, climbing, sitting, and standing.
- Incumbents are exposed to fumes and hazardous and explosive gases, infectious conditions, traffic hazards, working in cramped or restrictive work chambers, high voltage and angry or abusive individuals.
