Waste Treatment Tech - 1st Shift

Responsibilities

• Collect 24-hour composite and grab samples of influent and effluent wastewater streams and coordinate off-site laboratory testing for either routine monitoring or permit-related purposes.
• Perform routine laboratory testing of influent and effluent wastewater streams for state-mandated testing and system monitoring.
• Initiate and interpret all phases of an investigation for any non-compliance events with the SPDES permit parameters and complete all required documentation and notifications.
• Perform PM and routine maintenance for Wastewater Treatment Plant and plant-wide fire pump and tank systems to ensure proper operation.
• Prepare and maintain accurate documentation for sampling, testing, and maintenance activities in accordance with state and company requirements.
• Make routine process and mechanical adjustments of controls to maintain compliance in wastewater treatment plant operations.
• Assist with regulatory inspections by providing requested documentation and supporting plant leadership.
• Maintain daily logs per DEC & EPA requirements, including related reports and submissions to environmental agencies.
• Support machinery and equipment repairs, conduct maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant, collections, and distribution systems.
• Assist with the upkeep of the mechanical equipment for the plant-wide fire prevention system.
• Evaluate all generated waste streams for compliance in handling wastewater.

Requirements

• A high school diploma/GED or higher.
• 1-3 years’ experience in similar waste water or handler roles.
• Available for call-in response to plant or compliance emergencies outside of regular hours.
• Knowledgeable in WWTP laboratory procedures and testing methods.
• Familiarity with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Computer literacy for data entry and reporting.
• Strong teamwork, adaptability, and communication skills.
