Qualifications
- Four (4) years of experience in a field closely related to these duties, one (1) year of which must have been in a leadership or supervisory role; OR
- Four (4) years of equivalent combination of related experience and education, one (1) year of which must have been in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Preference may be given for two (2) or more years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Must possess a valid Utah Class B Driver's License.
- Must possess a valid DOT Medical Card at the time of employment.
- General proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel is required.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily work activities of Trash and Recycling truck drivers in the field to ensure company mandates and customer needs are met while working towards a high level of employee job satisfaction.
- Provide effective leadership and ensure services are delivered in professional, courteous, safe, and efficient ways.
- Serve as a company customer service representative responsible for successfully interacting with the public to resolve concerns, provide conflict resolution, and improve services.
- Supervise lead equipment operators and their teams, serving as the link between program managers and frontline staff.
- Inspect routes, review work in progress, allocate personnel and equipment to meet demand, and ensure effective communication between programs.
- Monitor the daily performance of assigned personnel and the team to ensure daily collections, deliveries, and repairs are completed to standard and on time.
- Fill in for work team members as needed.
- Supervise and provide necessary training and retraining for all District employees, including new hire training, New Hire Mentor Training, and post-accident retraining.
- Respond to and resolve customer concerns, educating customers about waste and recycling collection services.
- Keep managers apprised of customer issues.
- Set up routes and handle conflicts in the field that interfere with daily collections or deliveries.
- Inspect private lanes if requested.
- Respond to incidents and accidents, ensuring all District policies and procedures for accident reporting are followed.
- Serve as a contact for law enforcement officers and other agencies that interact with the District.
- Compile accident or incident reports for the day.
- Ensure all operators and equipment are in the yard at the end of the day and routes and groups are complete and released.
- Ensure any scheduled go-back homes and roads are fully completed by end of day, including proper completion of service orders in the work order system.
Knowledge
- Principles, methods, and techniques of effective supervision and leadership.
- Written and verbal instructions and the ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
- Operation and maintenance of heavy-duty collection and compaction equipment.
- Preventive maintenance for equipment and trucks.
- Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) with general proficiency required.
- The hazards and safety precautions inherent to waste collection operations.
- Effective methods of communication.
- General knowledge of Salt Lake County geography.
- General knowledge of Casselle for data input, service order process, monitoring, and assigning daily workload.
Skills and Abilities
- Computer skills related to creating and preparing documents, data tracking and evaluation, and email.
- Ability to perform math calculations using Excel to calculate tonnage, mileage, inventory, and time and leave usage.
- Ability to edit or print GIS maps and tables.
- Exhibit professional work behaviors and work well within District teams and with the public.

Minimum Requirements
- Full range of motion in the shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, legs, and feet.
- Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 100 pounds as necessary to ensure the route is complete and free of debris.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to drive and sit for extended periods while exposed to traffic hazards, inclement weather, noise, dust, fumes, grease, and potentially unsanitary conditions; the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
- Ability to climb into and out of equipment on a regular basis.
- Based on assignment, will be required to get and maintain forklift certification.
