About the role
The Warehouse/Yard Loader is a key team member who ensures customers leave with a positive impression. This role involves assisting customers with orders and returns, operating a forklift, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment. The successful candidate will take pride in their work, support team members, and understand the importance of time and accuracy in the construction supply industry.
Responsibilities
- Provide sales assistance to customers on orders and returns.
- Successfully complete and maintain company-provided forklift operator training and certification through safe operation.
- Operate forklift to load and unload trucks (company and customer) as directed by supervisor.
- Assist truck drivers in unloading and returning credit items, ensuring proper storage and completion of Return Credit Authorization forms.
- Unload incoming freight and verify counts for accuracy.
- Complete necessary reports, including order checks, material receipts, and forklift inspection forms.
- Load and safely handle customer orders.
- Maintain knowledge of inventory identification and locate/pull correct items by type, style, and quantity.
- Perform basic yard housekeeping duties, such as leveling lumber units, disposing of garbage (e.g., cut metal banding), and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Assist with cycle counts and inventory control as needed.
- Comply with company dress code and attendance policies.
- Support supervisors, coworkers, and other work areas as needed.
- Attend staff meetings, departmental meetings, and safety/health training on time.
- Follow all safety procedures and policies, including wearing required PPE (e.g., safety glasses, earplugs, face shields).
- Travel as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Three months of experience operating forklifts or similar equipment.
- Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, use hand tools (e.g., tape measure, hammer), and stack materials properly.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment or independently.
- Compliance with OSHA requirements for wearing PPE.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 100 lbs.; frequently lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must have normal range of vision (with or without corrective lenses).
- Must be able to hear running machinery.
- Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively.
- Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination.
- Must regularly reach overhead, squat, bend, twist, and stand.
- Must be able to walk regularly and use steps occasionally.
Work Conditions
- Works outside in extreme temperatures (heat and cold).
- Works with mechanical equipment daily.
- Works in areas with high noise levels.
