Responsibilities

• Inspect incoming shipments by checking descriptions, amounts, and/or identification numbers of materials received, performing basic mathematical calculations, and visually examining shipping cartons and containers (unbanding and unstacking when necessary) to ensure accuracy in quantity and kind. Identify and document wrong or damaged items prior to receiving shipments into inventory. Report any damaged, defective materials or discrepancies to supervisor/buyer; the buyer must complete a return materials authorization, and materials will not be included in inventory.
• Utilize a computer to receive goods electronically by entering receipts and goods into eCAPS (Electronic Countywide Accounting and Purchasing System).
• Load/unload trucks and move items to storage locations by considering size, shape, weight, quantity, type, stock number, and other storage factors (e.g., requirements for safe storage of hazardous materials), either manually or using lifting aids (e.g., material handling equipment) to ensure safe and efficient storage and retrieval of inventory.
• Prepare items for mailing, shipping, or will-call by picking, packaging, weighing, labeling, palletizing, and properly securing shipments using shrink wrapping, marking pens, box cutters, bungees, or strap ties to fill requisition requests as they are received.
• Participate in physical inventory procedures by accurately counting stocks, recording/tags property assigned to County departments for the Auditor/Controller, performing basic mathematical calculations, and recording inventory levels on hardcopy forms to obtain accurate information on inventory levels according to a routine schedule or as directed by a supervisor.
• Interact with representatives of outside agencies (e.g., delivery personnel), coworkers, and supervisors verbally (in person or on the phone) and in writing (e.g., email) to convey complete, accurate, and up-to-date information when approached or as directed by a supervisor.
• Transport shipments and/or salvage or surplus materials by operating a light truck (e.g., pickup, bobtail, flatbed, or cargo van) according to established County procedures and in full compliance with motor vehicle code requirements to deliver requisitioned materials, files, documents, retrieve needed stock, or dispose of discarded materials.

Requirements

• No prior training or experience is required to apply for this position.
• A valid California Class C Driver License may be required to perform essential job functions for some positions in this class.
• Physical Expectations: This role is classified as 4-Arduous, involving frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It may occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity.
• Successful applicants for positions requiring driving must obtain and present a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. The County will assess whether an applicant's driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. The license must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

Assessment Process

This examination will consist of an Evaluation of Training and Experience and Supplemental Questionnaire, weighted 100%, assessing:

• Experience in inventory procedures
• Experience in shipment receiving
• Experience in stock storage

Applicants must meet the requirements and receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list.
