Warehouse Specialist
The Tailored Closet and PremierGarage of Greater Washington, DC is seeking a detail-oriented, process-driven Warehouse Specialist to join our award-winning team. Help create amazing living spaces by ensuring materials and products are prepped, built, and staged efficiently and accurately for installation.
About the role
A full-time Warehouse Specialist supports the production team by safely receiving, inspecting, building, staging, and loading materials and products. This hands-on role includes woodworking (e.g., building drawer boxes and panel components), early-morning receiving, truck loading/unloading, inventory management, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, communicates proactively, and adapts to varying workloads.
Responsibilities
- Work under the Warehouse and Production Managers to prep jobs in priority order and on schedule.
- Review and clarify parts lists, cut lists, and contracts with meticulous attention to detail.
- Arrive early to receive, unload, and stage incoming deliveries before production begins.
- Inspect and verify materials/products against Bills of Lading, including melamine, wood, hardware, accessories, flooring, and installation supplies.
- Process returns, organize, and restock inventory using the company’s system.
- Build drawer boxes and components using shop machinery and proper joinery techniques, following spec sheets.
- Unload, inspect, prep, and/or build panel/shelving components, cabinets, and accessories.
- Operate a forklift to move palletized materials on/off racking (certification preferred).
- Maintain a clean, orderly warehouse, tools, and equipment daily (e.g., sweeping, taking out refuse).
- Track work status, follow processes, and report issues promptly using systems.
- Stage and load products/materials for jobs; assist clients with pickups or rolling racks.
- Follow communication protocols, ask clarifying questions, and escalate issues to supervisors or related departments (e.g., procurement, scheduling).
- Prioritize safety and mitigate risks in all tasks.
- Arrive on time for the 6:00 AM start.
- Run errands as needed (e.g., delivering materials to glass shop, picking up supplies, or delivering to job sites if cleared to drive).
- Assist with vehicle maintenance (e.g., stocking supplies, drop-off/pickup for service).
Requirements
- Process- and task-oriented with high energy and a proactive mindset.
- Prior woodworking, cabinetry, or carpentry experience (including shop machinery and hand/power tools) is a strong plus.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain it.
- Ability to regularly lift large boards or heavy materials (50–80+ lbs) and work while standing.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain a clean, orderly workspace.
- Effective communication via text, phone, and email with team members.
- Ability to complete tasks efficiently with a focus on quality.
- Visualization skills to interpret 2D plans and confirm 3D construction feasibility (a plus).
- Quick learner with the ability to retain product knowledge (e.g., parts, installation methods, damage identification).
Skills
- Extreme attention to detail (e.g., contracts, parts lists, material checks).
- Strong communication and teamwork.
- Physical stamina for safely moving pallets and materials (high-energy role).
- Prior warehouse experience (receiving, quality checking, picking/pulling) is a plus.
- Construction or woodworking experience with cabinets, drawer boxes, and components is a plus.
- Ability to learn product installation and functionality quickly.
