Position Overview
The Picking Specialist is responsible for accurately pulling, packing, and staging outbound cannabis orders in a fast-paced, highly regulated warehouse environment. This role is the foundation of order accuracy and inventory integrity - every unit picked must be correctly scanned, counted, and reconciled in Canix/METRC before it leaves the building. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable with repetitive physical work, and takes ownership of zero-error fulfillment.
Key Responsibilities
- Pick orders from warehouse racks against daily pull sheets, verifying SKU, batch/lot number, and quantity for each line item.
- Build totes/pallets for outbound manifests and label them accurately per OCM packaging and manifest requirements.
- Stage completed orders by route in coordination with dispatch and the Distribution Supervisor, ensuring orders are ready ahead of scheduled departure times.
- Perform daily and scheduled cycle counts, immediately flagging and documenting any discrepancies per SOP.
- Absorb inbound product as needed: count, scan in, and put away in the correct rack/bin location.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready pick area at all times, following 5S/warehouse organization standards.
- Follow all NY OCM and internal chain-of-custody protocols for handling, security, and recordkeeping of cannabis product.
- Report any equipment issues, damaged product, or safety hazards to the Warehouse Manager immediately.
- Collaborate with pickers, drivers, and supervisors to keep orders moving efficiently through the warehouse.
- Maintain satisfactory attendance with consistency and dependability in a manifest-driven, deadline-sensitive operation.
- Cross Training in other departments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. throughout the shift.
- Ability to stand and walk for the duration of a full shift on warehouse flooring.
- Ability to bend, kneel, twist, and reach to access product on racking at varying heights.
- Comfortable operating a pallet jack; forklift experience a plus.
- Ability to perform repetitive scanning and handling motions accurately and efficiently.
Qualifications
- Comfortable using RF/Bluetooth scanners and inventory software; experience with Canix, METRC, or a similar seed-to-sale platform a plus.
- Must be 21 years of age or older, per state cannabis regulations.
- Ability to pass a background check per OCM licensing requirements.
- High level of attention to detail with a track record of accurate, error-free work.
