Job Summary
The Warehouse Receiver in a pipe shop is responsible for receiving, inspecting, and documenting incoming piping materials, fittings, valves, and related components. This role ensures all materials meet project specifications, are properly identified, and are stored or staged to support fabrication and production activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive deliveries of pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, gaskets, and related materials
- Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing lists, and material test reports (MTRs)
- Inspect materials for damage, correct size, wall thickness, grade, and specification compliance
- Confirm proper documentation, including heat numbers and traceability requirements
- Tag and label materials to maintain traceability throughout fabrication
- Enter receiving data into inventory or material tracking systems
- Clock with QA/QC and procurement teams to resolve discrepancies or non-conforming materials
- Stage materials for fabrication crews according to work orders or isometric drawings
- Safely unload materials using forklifts, cranes, or rigging equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving and laydown area
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Experience in a pipe shop, fabrication yard, or industrial warehouse is preferred
- A basic understanding of piping materials (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys) is necessary
- The ability to read and interpret purchase orders, packing lists, and isometric drawings is required
- Familiarity with material traceability and QA/QC requirements is important
- A strong attention to detail and organizational skills are essential
- The ability to lift heavy materials and work in an industrial environment is required
Preferred Skills
- Experience with material control systems or ERP software is preferred
- Forklift and/or overhead crane certification is preferred
- Knowledge of ASME/ASTM material standards is preferred
- Experience handling large-diameter pipe and rigging practices is preferred
Working Conditions
- An industrial pipe shop or fabrication yard environment
- Exposure to weather (if outdoor laydown yard)
- Frequent lifting, standing, walking, and equipment operation
- Must follow strict safety and PPE requirements
