About Shepherd Electric Supply

Since 1892, Shepherd Electric Supply has been the go-to solution for complex, time-critical electrical challenges. We ensure materials are moved accurately and on time, keeping contractors on schedule and projects on track.

Why This Role Matters

The Warehouse Manager — Night Shift is crucial for maintaining smooth operations after hours. This role ensures that every fill rate, accurate outbound order, and clean handoff to the day team is met, ensuring reliability and customer satisfaction.

Key Outcomes

  • Own nightly warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, inventory control, wire management, and truck logistics.

  • Maintain operational flow across all inbound and outbound functions, ensuring continuous movement without stalls or rework.

  • Set and enforce accuracy and pace standards for the warehouse team each shift.

  • Coordinate with dispatch, counter sales, and purchasing when time-sensitive exceptions arise.

  • Ensure will-call orders are staged and ready before customers arrive.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Select, onboard, and develop warehouse staff, including Warehouse Leads, so the team executes without relying on heroics.

  • Coach, counsel, and hold team members accountable through direct, consistent feedback, not just documentation.

  • Delegate clearly, follow up on completion, and build a crew that holds itself to a standard.

  • Develop your Warehouse Lead as a capable successor, not just an extra set of hands.

  • Maintain familiarity with Central Maryland delivery routes and ensure driver and routing coordination functions smoothly.

Inventory Integrity

  • Own inventory accuracy, including cycle counts, physical inventory, bin location maintenance, and discrepancy resolution.

  • Treat inventory discrepancies as signals requiring root cause investigation, not isolated incidents to close out.

  • Flag recurring discrepancy patterns to Branch Manager for systemic review.

Outbound Fulfillment & Shipping

  • Ensure outbound orders leave clean — right product, right quantity, complete and accurate documentation.

  • Verify shipping documentation is complete on every outbound shipment.

  • Prioritize time-critical and priority-flagged orders with urgency and direct communication to affected teams.

Equipment, Facility & Safety

  • Maintain safe, organized warehouse operations — aisles clear, equipment functional, hazards addressed before they become incidents.

  • Oversee pre-shift equipment inspections and ensure maintenance needs are reported and resolved proactively.

  • Operate and ensure team compliance with forklift, pallet jack, and reach truck certification requirements.

  • Serve as the primary accountability layer for warehouse safety compliance — model it, enforce it, and never treat it as a formality.

Process Improvement & Cross-Shift Consistency

  • Surface inefficiencies, recurring errors, and workflow friction — and act on them, not just report them.

  • Recommend and test process changes that improve accuracy, speed, or team capacity.

  • Communicate clearly with day shift leadership on open issues, handoff status, and follow-up items.

  • Support branch expansion readiness — your operational systems should hold up when we open the next location.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • 5+ years of warehouse management experience with a workforce of similar size and scope.

  • Previous overnight or PM shift experience strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook; familiarity with warehouse management systems.

  • Forklift, pallet jack, and reach truck certification required or ability to obtain through onsite training.

  • Familiarity with Laurel and Central Maryland delivery area preferred.

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. regularly and perform the physical requirements of the role.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Electrical product knowledge is a plus.

  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening requirements.

  • Willingness to cover alternate shifts when operational needs require it.
