About the role
The Warehouse Manager I position is responsible for managing warehouse operations at the EarthScope Primary Instrument Center (EPIC) in New Mexico. This role involves coordinating with the Facilities Manager for reports to government sponsors, conducting annual inventories, ensuring compliance with OMB standards, and maintaining OSHA compliance.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates with the Facilities Manager for developing reports for government sponsors in specific format regarding changes in property, disposition requests, etc., as required by policy and OMB standards.
- Conducts annual inventory of property in coordination with all EarthScope facilities and assists in reconciliation with accounting personnel.
- Arranges transport for all shipments from the assigned facility and tracks and confirms delivery of all outgoing and incoming shipments.
- Maintains and monitors accuracy of inventory database and assists technicians and engineers in equipment preparation including coordination of packaging and staging for experiment shipments and for shipments of network operations supplies.
- Operates warehouse equipment safely and develops, updates, and maintains standard operating procedures for warehouse operations, shipment processing, and compliance activities.
- Maintains OSHA compliance in warehouse operations through required safety supplies, regular documented inspections, and adherence to established safety protocols.
- Maintains warehouse, security, and general housekeeping.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- At least six (6) years of experience in warehouse and inventory management including staff supervision.
- Experience in tracking and reporting government and company property.
- One or more of the following certifications: Hazardous materials, IATA/Lithium battery handling OSHA Lift Truck Operator.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in business, logistics or related field.
- Working knowledge of international trade regulations, including customs laws, EAR, and ITAR.
- Ability to prepare and interpret shipping and customs documentation with accuracy.
- Familiarity with HTS classification, country of origin rules, valuation, and tariff structures.
- Strong coordination skills for working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and government agencies.
- Ability to train others and transfer compliance knowledge effectively to a distributed operations team.
- Ability to interpret and apply regulatory updates to daily operations.
- Ability to use judgment within defined practices / procedures to determine appropriate action.
- Ability to contribute to the solution of complex problems.
- Ability to apply good judgment and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
Skills
- Entry-level certification or coursework in import/export regulations or international trade compliance (e.g., Certified Export Specialist, ICC Export/Import Certificate (EIC), or equivalent).
- Experience in knowledge transfer, training facilitation, or cross-facility staff development.
- Experience with inventory management software.
