About the Role

The Assistant Manager is a key leadership position in the distribution and operations organization, reporting directly to the Night Manager. This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as knowledge of warehouse operations, including inventory control, shipping, and receiving in a Direct Sales organization. Preference is given to candidates with warehouse automation experience and familiarity with union environments, though these are not required.

The Assistant Manager oversees night-to-night operations, ensuring high levels of customer service from the warehouse to customers while driving productivity improvements through fill rate, throughput, and cost optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Planning: Identify and plan staffing requirements based on warehousing and distribution operations. Make decisions related to shipping, receiving, and inventory control. Ensure procedures and processes align with operational needs. Train and implement new technology and processes while maintaining productivity.
  • Building an Inclusive Culture: Foster individual and collective accountability, reward and recognition programs, and communication strategies to develop frontline employees and create a desirable workplace.
  • Continuous Improvement: Develop and implement standard operating procedures and performance-based metrics with the management team and frontline staff to drive results through programs like Lean Six Sigma.
  • Collaboration: Partner with Night and Day operation managers, delivery, and Maintenance teams to identify opportunities for improving fill rate, throughput, and cost reduction.
  • Safety: Direct programs to ensure the safety of personnel, equipment, and property. Provide safety instruction, report work-related injuries, and ensure compliance with government regulations. Provide immediate medical attention to injured employees as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics Management, Mechanical Engineering, Business Management, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of supervision-level experience within a distribution warehouse.
  • Operational supervision experience in a distribution environment.
  • Preferred: Warehouse automation experience.
  • Functional understanding of WMS, Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint; strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work non-traditional business hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends when required.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000, depending on qualifications such as experience, education, and skillset. This role is also eligible for a discretionary bonus.
