Warehouse and Driver
Johnstone Supply, North America's leading wholesale distributor of HVACR equipment, parts, and supplies, is seeking a COS Material Handler/Driver to join our team. With over 470 distributor branches and 6 distribution centers across North America, we partner with major manufacturers like Daikin/Goodman, Bosch, Copeland, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, and Fujitsu to provide contractors with world-class products and service.
About the role
The COS Material Handler/Driver is responsible for receiving, filling, and shipping products accurately and efficiently, as well as ensuring the safe transport and timely arrival of products to customers and other store locations. This role involves a variety of warehouse functions and driving responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Receive, fill, and ship products accurately and efficiently.
- Operate basic power equipment (e.g., electric pallet jack, walkie rider, sit-down forklift) to locate, put away, stack, and move products to correct storage locations daily, including stocking, filling bin boxes, facing cartons, and rotating product.
- Unload trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, or by hand; inspect freight for damage, verify quantities, and complete necessary paperwork for discrepancies.
- Ensure all products have verified bar code labels and readable Johnstone stock numbers by scanning, printing labels, and resolving discrepancies.
- Pick, pack, and stack orders to minimize damage; document shipments, including hazardous materials, with correct labeling and paperwork.
- Prepare orders for shipment by palletizing, wrapping, loading trucks, and completing necessary documentation.
- Maintain accuracy and efficiency standards; follow all standard operating procedures.
- Participate in inventory cycle counts and related projects.
- Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of warehouse machinery and equipment; report safety or maintenance concerns promptly.
- Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to safety rules and wearing protective equipment as required.
- Safely operate company vehicles consistent with DOT, state, federal, and company standards; perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Load and unload trucks; verify deliveries against sales and transfer orders.
- Prepare routes, follow schedules, and meet deadlines for delivery, shipping, and receiving tasks.
- Drive straight body vehicles (e.g., box trucks) to deliver supplies to customers or other Johnstone locations.
- Maintain communication with supervisors regarding delivery instructions, issues, or customer feedback.
- Record sales/delivery information, complete manifests with pictures, signatures, and returns using an iPad or manual methods.
- Return vehicles fully fueled at the end of the day; complete driver logs and associated paperwork.
- Return gas receipts, monies, vehicle inspection logs, and other necessary paperwork.
- Maintain professional communication and a helpful attitude with customers and coworkers.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record acceptable to the company; must meet all state and federal driving regulations.
- 1+ years of truck driving experience (26 ft vehicle or larger) or 1 year operating Johnstone equipment/vehicles under supervision; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment safely and competently.
- Forklift certification required, or willingness to obtain on the job.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver large/heavy products or equipment within safety guidelines.
- Proficiency in reading maps, GPS, and mapping applications.
- Ability to read, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain professional relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; English proficiency is required.
- Ability to follow instructions, organize work, prioritize tasks, and attend to details.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems, order picking processes, and inventory cycle counts.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ months of experience in a warehouse and/or distribution facility, preferably in HVAC/R or related field.
- Experience with picker, RF scanner, and inventory management systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC wholesale industry principles and practices.
- Previous experience with OSHA and safety regulations.
Skills
- Operation of delivery vehicles, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other power equipment.
- Use of technology such as GPS, mobile Proof of Delivery (POD) devices, RF equipment, and ERP software.
- Ability to complete routine paperwork and documentation accurately.
- Teamwork and collaboration in a warehouse environment.
- Problem-solving and adaptability in dynamic work settings.
Pay
$30,000–$45,000 per year.
