About the Role
Scholastic Reading Events are in-person experiences that empower kids to discover books, bringing entire communities together through pop-up book fairs in schools. As a Branch Manager, you will lead the local branch team in Raleigh, NC, overseeing day-to-day warehouse operations to ensure adherence to company standards and optimal performance. This role supports Scholastic’s mission to encourage reading and promote lifelong learning while demonstrating values of caring and respect for all people.
Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, direct, and execute day-to-day operational activities of a small to medium-sized distribution center.
- Financial Management:
- Plan and prepare the annual budget for the branch in conjunction with the Area Operations Manager.
- Achieve financial results and manage business-operating costs effectively.
- Ensure the branch meets budgeted goals, including direct operating costs, revenue per fair, and overall profitability.
- Operations Management:
- Implement operational efficiency improvements and utilize capacity planning and metrics to achieve financial results.
- Oversee packing, set-up, delivery, and pick-up of book fairs to ensure optimum productivity.
- Manage the production system to ensure daily production plans are generated, implemented, and completed.
- Conduct annual and semi-annual warehouse sales to reduce inventory and maximize revenue.
- Monitor and evaluate inventory utilization and control procedures.
- Ensure monthly safety meetings are conducted with full attendance and proper record-keeping.
- Oversee completion of insurance forms for worker’s compensation, motor vehicle accidents, and property loss.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and productive work environment, complying with OSHA guidelines and company directives.
- Leadership:
- Direct hiring, training, development, and evaluation of drivers, warehouse personnel, and supervisory staff.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively between Operations and Sales teams to enhance business performance.
- Ensure all assets are secured and handled appropriately to minimize product damage and property loss.
- Execute company policies, procedures, and programs professionally and timely.
- Provide superior, responsive customer service while maintaining cost controls.
- Plan and conduct regular staff meetings to inform, educate, recognize employees, and exchange ideas.
- Partner with Human Resources for recruiting, interviewing, selecting, training, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating employees.
- Maintain business confidentiality regarding personnel, pricing, promotions, customer lists, and distribution methods.
Requirements
- BA/BS degree in Management, Business, Transportation, or Operations-related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven front-line management experience in operations for a manufacturing or distribution company.
- Demonstrated capability to manage high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
- Facilities management and inventory management experience preferred.
- Hands-on experience managing warehouse products, supplies, and goods.

Pay
Budgeted base salary range: $80,000–$85,000 annually, with additional performance bonus opportunity.
