Responsibilities
- Repair and/or replace damaged truck parts and components
- Work within a team and adhere to company-wide safety standards
- Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests to identify worn and damaged parts
- Remove, repair, adjust, overhaul, assemble, disassemble, and replace major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems
- Bolt or weld replacement parts in position, using wrenches or welding equipment
- File, grind, and sand repaired surfaces
- Correctly repair or replace defective mechanical parts
- Maintain shop equipment and evaluate service and parts options to contain costs
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot breakdowns
- Keep up-to-date with industry knowledge by attending workshops and reviewing publications
- Accept ownership for new and different requests and add value to job accomplishments
Requirements
- H.S. diploma or equivalent
- Completion of mechanical trade school is preferred, or at least three years of mechanical experience
- A valid Class C driver’s license is preferred
- ASE certification and knowledge of truck body repair are preferred
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle report
Qualifications (Minimum Requirements)
- Education and/or years’ experience required: Associates degree from a mechanical trade school or in process of completion of degree
Essential Functions and Accountabilities
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests
- Identifies worn and damaged parts
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems
- Removes upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic window-and-seat-operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle body and fenders
- Bolts or welds replacement parts in position, using wrenches or welding equipment
- Files, grinds, and sands repaired surfaces
- Repairs or replaces defective mechanical parts
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs
- Contains costs by using warranties; evaluating service and parts options
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
- Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
