Vulnerabilty Manager
Engagement Summary
ADP is seeking outcome-based technical services to accelerate remediation of an established population of vulnerabilities, exposure findings, unsupported or outdated software, audit observations, and compliance gaps across ADP-managed endpoint and related technology environments. ADP has completed the initial identification and assessment of the vulnerability population and will provide relevant vulnerability, software inventory, lifecycle, deployment, and prioritization data. The Vendor will be accountable for assigned remediation items from intake through technical resolution, software packaging where required, quality assurance, controlled deployment, validation, evidence capture, and closure. The engagement is focused on measurable remediation outcomes rather than staff augmentation or activity volume. Success will be measured through vulnerability and software-currency backlog reduction, remediation cycle time, QA quality, deployment success, compliance with established remediation targets, exception aging, automation, and complete closure evidence.
Scope and Description of Vendor Services
Vulnerability Remediation and Burndown
- Execute against vulnerability, exposure, EOL, end-of-support, and outdated-software findings provided and prioritized by ADP.
- Develop actionable remediation plans with defined actions, dependencies, owners, target dates, and completion criteria.
- Perform or support patching, software upgrades, configuration hardening, security-control implementation, and other corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and dependencies preventing remediation.
- Drive assigned findings through technical resolution, validation, evidence collection, and closure.
- Coordinate with ADP Cyber Security and technology teams to validate completed remediation.
- Route findings that cannot be remediated through the appropriate ADP-approved exception or risk-acceptance process.
Accountable Outcome: Measurable reduction of the assigned vulnerability and exposure backlog, with findings remediated within established targets or formally dispositioned through an approved exception process.
Software Lifecycle and Currency Management
- Review ADP-provided inventory, vulnerability, vendor lifecycle, and deployment data to identify assigned EOL, end-of-support, vulnerable, or materially outdated software.
- Validate the appropriate supported enterprise version, upgrade path, licensing, architecture, prerequisites, dependencies, compatibility, vendor restrictions, known issues, and rollback requirements.
- Establish an approved disposition for each assigned item: upgrade, remove, replace, or exception.
- Maintain the software remediation backlog, including current and target versions, platform, endpoint population, owner, risk, priority, dependencies, target date, blockers, and disposition.
Accountable Outcome: Assigned software is moved to a supported and ADP-approved state, removed or replaced where appropriate, or governed through a documented exception, reducing EOL exposure and software-version fragmentation.
Software Packaging and Engineering
- Develop enterprise-ready Windows and macOS packages using ADP-approved standards, tools, repositories, naming conventions, signing controls, and endpoint-management platforms.
- Support applicable MSI, EXE, MSIX, AppX, DMG, PKG, Intune Win32, scripted, and signed PKG formats.
- Develop unattended installation, upgrade, repair, detection, remediation, uninstall, rollback, and logging capabilities.
- Develop PowerShell, PSAppDeployToolkit, shell, pre-install, and post-install scripts as required.
- Identify and configure runtimes, frameworks, drivers, certificates, architecture requirements, operating-system minimums, conflicting applications, dependencies, and supersedence relationships.
- Develop deterministic detection and requirement logic using approved mechanisms such as product codes, versions, registry values, bundle identifiers, receipts, or scripts.
- Validate software source, version, certificate chain, digital signature, checksum, and malware-scan results.
- Ensure credentials, secrets, and licensing information are handled only through ADP-approved secure mechanisms.
- Create required MECM/SCCM, Intune, and Jamf Pro application/package objects, metadata, installation commands, return codes, requirements, dependencies, supersedence, detection rules, and support information.
- Maintain complete package specifications, source/version information, scripts, requirements, dependencies, known conflicts, rollback procedures, testing notes, revision history, and support instructions.
Accountable Outcome: A secure, supportable, repeatable, enterprise-ready package that meets ADP standards and can be independently installed, tested, detected, upgraded, removed, and rolled back.
Quality Assurance and Release Certification
- Develop and execute risk-based test plans appropriate to each remediation or software release.
- Validate clean installation, in-place upgrades, application launch, critical functionality, integrations, licensing, configuration, dependencies, restart behavior, repair, uninstall, residual artifacts, rollback, security controls, performance, compatibility, and user experience.
- Develop reusable automated testing where appropriate using ADP-approved tools and frameworks such as Python, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, Selenium, WinAppDriver, Sikuli, or equivalent capabilities.
- Execute automated smoke and regression testing and manual exploratory testing where automation is not practical.
- Integrate automated tests into approved CI/CD capabilities where appropriate.
- Capture defects with reproducible evidence, severity, impact, disposition, retesting, and regression results.
- Produce traceable QA evidence documenting test scope, environment, results, defects, waivers, residual risks, and release recommendation.
- Prevent production promotion when required quality gates have not been satisfied unless ADP formally accepts the residual risk.
Accountable Outcome: Objective evidence that remediation and software releases meet established acceptance criteria and do not introduce unacceptable functional, compatibility, security, performance, or user-experience risk.
Release, Deployment and Production Remediation
- Prepare release plans, change records, deployment configurations, pilot populations, production waves, communications, support documentation, monitoring thresholds, and rollback criteria.
- Publish QA-certified packages through applicable ADP-approved platforms, including MECM/SCCM, Intune, and Jamf Pro.
- Configure applicability, dependencies, supersedence, targeting, deadlines, notifications, maintenance behavior, distribution, detection, and rollback assignments.
- Establish phased deployment rings with defined entry and exit criteria.
- Validate assignment scope, endpoint reachability, installation success, target-version attainment, application health, support trends, and user impact before expanding deployment.
- Monitor download, detection, installation, reboot, version, compliance, safeguard, and incident telemetry.
- Troubleshoot failed deployments using endpoint and platform logs and correct content, assignment, policy, network, dependency, or client-health issues.
- Safely rerun deployments and actively remediate failed or blocked devices.
- Pause, rollback, or hold deployments when predefined failure, incident, or business-impact thresholds are exceeded.
- Validate post-deployment health and installed-version compliance.
Accountable Outcome: Approved remediation is safely deployed to the agreed population, failures are actively resolved, exceptions are controlled, business disruption is minimized, and deployment evidence supports operational and audit closure.
Exception, Failure and Dependency Management
- Identify and actively manage remediation blockers, deployment failures, unreachable devices, dependencies, and exceptions.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement automated or manual corrective actions.
- Retest impacted devices following remediation.
- Document exceptions caused by business, technical, licensing, compatibility, vendor, inactive-device, or other approved constraints.
- Ensure every exception contains an accountable owner, justification, affected population, mitigating controls, review date, and target resolution date.
- Escalate risks and dependencies that threaten established remediation targets.
Accountable Outcome: Failed, blocked, or excluded items do not remain unmanaged; residual exposure is transparent, time-bound, governed, and actively reduced.
Automation and Continuous Improvement
- Identify repeatable remediation, packaging, testing, deployment, evidence-collection, and reporting activities suitable for automation.
- Develop reusable automation using ADP-approved technologies, including APIs, PowerShell, Python, Bash, endpoint-management platforms, ServiceNow, CI/CD capabilities, or equivalent tools.
