VP of Product Engineering

On-siteEngineering$400k–$500k/yrFull-time
About the role
You own the product-engineering half of the org — the member-facing, consumer, and product-surface domains where what we build is felt by real people (member-facing agents across voice and chat, the Nexus product surfaces, and the BankGPT consumer experience). You build and scale that org, hold quality while moving fast, and come out with a high-trust, AI-native culture. A player-coach role at the start: in the architecture discussions, code reviews, and late-Friday PRs, while building the org and running recruiting.
What You Will Own
- Engineering org design & growth for the product-engineering domains — build a world-class team and the rituals that keep a fast team aligned.
- Velocity & quality — processes, tooling, and culture to ship fast without momentum-killing tech debt.
- Consumer & member-facing product engineering — the agent library, money-movement and servicing flows, chat / conversion, and the consumer experience.
- AI-native engineering culture — embed Claude Code, Cursor, and frontier models as standard.
- Recruiting & talent brand for your half of the org; partner Bruce on architecture and Srinivas on product.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years engineering; 4–6 in leadership at high-growth startups / scale-ups; scaled a team through a funding transition
- Domain commonality (required): fintech / consumer finance / neobank or consumer-at-scale; conversational / CX software also relevant.
- Preferred: ex-founder who scaled a consumer or fintech startup (strong preference, not a bar).
- Still technical — reviews PRs, makes architecture calls, holds their own with a Staff / Chief Engineer.
- Extreme AI fluency at the infra level; has built an AI-native engineering culture.
- Production-scale TypeScript and/or Python; strong people leadership and product intuition.
