VP of Business Development and Expansion
An innovative and rapidly growing healthcare organization is seeking a VP of Business Development and Expansion to lead the transformation and expansion of an established clinical trials platform into a nationally recognized research organization. This is a rare executive leadership opportunity for an entrepreneurial clinical research professional who wants to build, scale, and shape the future of device-focused clinical trials.
The organization currently operates a successful vascular-device research program across multiple Office-Based Laboratory (OBL) sites and is ready to expand into a broader multi-site clinical research infrastructure supporting hospitals, health systems, outpatient centers, and external investigators.
About the Role
As VP of Business Development and Expansion, you will be responsible for creating and executing the strategic vision for a growing clinical research enterprise. You will work closely with executive leadership, physician leaders, and research operations teams to develop a scalable organization capable of managing high-quality, compliant, device-based clinical trials across multiple specialties and geographies.
This role offers the opportunity to build new capabilities, establish strategic industry partnerships, and develop a research network that can support industry-leading sponsors, investigators, and healthcare organizations.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute a long-term growth strategy for the clinical research business.
- Define organizational structure, governance, operational processes, and infrastructure needed for scalable growth.
- Establish strategic relationships with hospitals, physician groups, health systems, device manufacturers, and emerging medical technology companies.
- Drive innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable expansion across research operations.
- Research Operations & Expansion
- Oversee site identification, activation, budgeting, contracting, compliance, and operational planning.
- Expand research operations beyond existing locations into new healthcare facilities and investigator networks.

- Build centralized systems and processes that support high-quality, multi-site trial execution.
- Business Development
- Develop relationships with sponsors, CROs, research partners, and industry stakeholders.
- Create commercial strategies, service offerings, and pricing models that support growth.
- Serve as a key ambassador at conferences, advisory boards, and industry events.
- Identify new market opportunities and expand research capabilities into additional therapeutic and procedural specialties.

- Recruit, develop, and mentor high-performing clinical research and operations teams.
- Foster a culture centered on scientific integrity, regulatory compliance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Build leadership structures capable of supporting rapid organizational growth.
Requirements
- 10+ years of business and operational leadership experience.
- 5+ years of senior leadership experience within a CRO, SMO, sponsor organization, or related clinical research environment.
- Strong expertise in medical device clinical trials.
- Experience in vascular, endovascular, interventional radiology, cardiovascular, or related procedural specialties preferred.
- Proven success managing partnerships across outpatient facilities, hospitals, and integrated health systems.
- Deep understanding of FDA regulations, ICH-GCP standards, and device trial requirements.
- Strong business development, relationship management, and operational scaling experience.
- An entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for building organizations and driving growth.

Location
This position is based in Burlington, Massachusetts, with an expectation of regular in-person collaboration, typically at least once per week.
