VP, Legal Counsel - Public Markets
About the role
The Legal and Compliance Department (LCD) manages key legal, regulatory, and compliance risks for GIC and partners with the business to ensure that such risks are identified, assessed, and dealt with in a timely and efficient manner. This position supports GIC’s public market investment professionals in the External Managers Department, Fixed Income & Multi Asset Department, Alternative Credit Group, and the Portfolio Execution & Solutions Group.
Responsibilities
- Identify key legal, regulatory, and reputational issues in transactions arising from investment activities as well as non-investment related activities.
- Recommend and implement creative solutions to address a wide variety of complex legal issues.
- Liaise and consult with top international and local law firms on a wide variety of legal matters, delivering superior services on a cost-effective basis.
- Review, negotiate, and manage transactions to close, and draft and/or comment on associated contracts.
- Contribute and promote teamwork and collaboration among the LCD team.
- Participate in or contribute to GIC-wide initiatives and projects on a global basis as needed.
Requirements
- Law degree with strong academic results from a reputable law school and 7–9 years of post-qualification experience as an investment funds lawyer (in private practice or in-house). Relevant experience in corporate matters and vendor agreements is an advantage.
- Licensed to practice law in a U.S. state (preferably New York or California).
- Analytical mind, intellectual curiosity, and a solid grasp of commercial law; ability to identify legal risks and propose solutions while balancing business objectives.
- Strong negotiating skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills to represent GIC effectively with counterparties and internal clients.
- Adaptable, resourceful, able to multitask under tight deadlines, work both independently and in a team, and driven by a strong desire to succeed.

Pay
Total compensation comprises base pay and a performance-based bonus. The anticipated base salary range for this role is $320,000 to $450,000. Bonuses may form a meaningful proportion of the total package and are determined by company and individual performance.
