VP, Alternative Investments Accounting
About the role
The role of VP of Alternatives Investment Accounting involves setting the strategic direction and governance framework for overseeing the GAAP and STAT accounting close, financial reporting, and financial analytics pertaining to the company’s alternative investment portfolio, including investment funds and mortgage loan portfolio. The Director of Alternatives Investment Accounting will report to the Head of Investment Accounting.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a recognized enterprise-wide subject matter expert on accounting and reporting for complex alternative investments, including investment funds and mortgage loans
- Direct and govern the monthly accounting close over investment funds and mortgage loans, including oversight of two associates and a third-party accounting vendor
- Own the strategic relationship and performance governance of third-party accounting vendor
- Research and formally document technical accounting conclusions related to accounting and reporting guidance, including VIE analyses, on new investments
- Oversee and challenge key judgments related to credit reserves and impairments on mortgage loans (CECL and OTTI)
- Review and approve footnotes and schedules for U.S. GAAP and Statutory financial statements
- Collaborate with Investment Front Office on new investment strategies or investment managers, including evaluating accounting implications and influencing structure where appropriate
- Evaluate investment results and deliver executive-level insights through analytics package to finance leaders
- Identify and review non-routine and complex manual journal entries needed for accurate financial results
- Act as a key accounting advisor to Investment Management, Third-Party Asset Managers, and Cedants
- Design, enhance, and oversee the effectiveness of internal financial controls to ensure accurate investment accounting results
- Lead talent development, including coaching, performance management, and organizational capability building on daily, monthly, and quarterly tasks
- Provide reporting and supplemental information to reinsurance cedants and ensure alignment with contractual and regulatory requirements
- Support an environment of continuous improvement by driving process transformation, automation, and scalability initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Certified Public Accountant preferred
- 10+ years of experience with 6+ years of investment accounting and/or insurance industry experience required
- Expertise in US GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles, with demonstrated application to complex alternative investments
- Experience with Clearwater Analytics or Third-Party Investment Accounting model preferred
- Strong research, verbal and written communication skills are essential to effectively and clearly communicate technical issues in a pragmatic way to others including senior leadership
- Confidence, credibility and character to liaise across corporate functions; ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues both within Resolution Life and throughout the industry
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to develop, coach and train others in an organizational setting while influencing outcomes across functions without direct authority
- Strong focus on stakeholder satisfaction and consistently works to provide a high level of service while balancing control, governance, and scalability considerations

Pay
Base salary range for this role is $159,000 - $204,000 in West Chester, PA and $173,000 - $223,000 in New York, NY. These figures reflect the primary location, which is listed first. The range may differ based on the location.
Schedule
This role is hybrid - 3 days per week in the office.
