About the role

We are registering new voters who agree with our progressive values and want to see Trump removed from office. We'll stop people in heavily trafficked areas and walk them through the process to register to vote. By engaging community members and motivating new voters, we are working to ensure that the electorate accurately reflects the diversity and interests of all. This role is a great opportunity to gain experience in Leadership, Communication & Advocacy, Community Outreach & Engagement, Campaign Work, Public Policy, and Social Enterprise.

Locations

  • Macomb County, MI
  • Kalamazoo, MI

Schedule

Shifts run from 10:45 a.m.–6:30 p.m., Tuesday–Sunday, with the possibility to work part-time or full-time. All positions run through mid September, with possibilities for advancement afterwards.

Pay

  • Canvass positions start at $20/hour
  • Leadership positions start at $21/hour
  • $1/hour bonus for staff who are bilingual in English and Spanish in Macomb County & Kalamazoo, MI
  • Overtime and many bonus opportunities available
  • Total weekly earning potential is $1500+ when you meet all requirements for bonuses

Canvasser Responsibilities ($20/hr)

  • Engage with the public in a friendly and respectful manner
  • Deliver a compelling campaign message, and collect complete and valid voter registration forms
  • Participate in staff training to improve outreach skills
  • Strictly follow all local, state, and federal laws around voter registration

Team Leader Responsibilities ($21/hr)

All Canvasser Responsibilities, plus:

  • Manage a small group of canvassers out in the field by checking in with them periodically throughout the day and debriefing with them at the end of the day
  • Ensure each canvasser has all of the materials they need to be safe and successful
  • Assist directors with canvasser training and administrative work

Qualifications

  • Passionate about progressive politics and fostering democracy
  • Strong communication skills; you should enjoy working with other people and be willing and excited to speak with everyone
  • Hard worker who will stay motivated to engage as many people as possible
  • Open to new challenges and are interested in building their campaign skills
  • Culturally competent and able to respectfully engage with teammates and the community
  • Prior voter registration experience is strongly preferred, but not required
