About the organisation

De Vereniging Hogescholen (VH) represents the 36 universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands, collaborating to strengthen the higher professional education (hbo) sector. Over recent decades, the sector has evolved significantly, with growth in practice-oriented research (PGO) and the development of Master’s programmes as key examples. The introduction of Associate degrees has improved connections with secondary vocational education (mbo). As knowledge institutions, universities of applied sciences play a crucial role in major societal transitions through their education and research. They work closely with businesses and social institutions at regional, national, and European levels, contributing to productivity, economic capacity, and broader societal challenges, as well as personal development and the shaping of the ‘professional of the future’.

The VH board currently consists of seven university of applied sciences chairs, alongside the president. The board is responsible for the daily management of the association, preparing and executing decisions made by the general assembly, and engaging in discussions with the Minister of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and other ministries on matters affecting the entire higher professional education sector. The board also acts as the client for the VH association bureau. The president of the VH serves as both the chair of the board and the chair of the general assembly.

About the role

The Vereniging Hogescholen is seeking a new president to succeed the current president, Maurice Limmen, upon the completion of his maximum term on 1 December 2026.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily management of the Vereniging Hogescholen.
• Prepare, communicate, and execute decisions made by the general assembly.
• Represent the VH in discussions with the Minister of OCW and other ministries on issues affecting the higher professional education sector.
• Act as the client for the VH association bureau.
• Serve as chair of both the VH board and the general assembly.
