About the role
Residential Hospice is seeking dedicated Patient Support Volunteers to help patients and families through their end-of-life journey. Hospice patients have a terminal diagnosis and limited life expectancy, and they and their loved ones often face significant emotional stressors. Volunteers provide comfort, companionship, and friendship to patients in nursing facilities or at home, and may also offer respite for caregivers.
Responsibilities
- Engage with patients through activities such as reading aloud, doing puzzles, or attending facility activities together
- Provide companionship by listening to music, talking, or simply holding a hand
- Offer respite for caregivers by sitting with a patient while the caregiver takes time for themselves
- Adapt support to each patient's individual needs and preferences
Qualifications
- Kind and friendly demeanor with a desire to help others in the community
- Patient and empathic, willing to share those gifts during difficult times
- Comfortable providing emotional support to patients with terminal diagnoses and their families
- Reliable and able to commit to scheduled volunteer visits
