About the role
The position involves instructing Tai Chi and QiGong, as well as other activities as needed, to promote, restore, and preserve the health and well-being of senior citizens.
Responsibilities
- Identify, select, and apply appropriate guidelines and procedures, and interpret precedents independently.
- Prepare and set up Tai Chi and QiGong settings and equipment for scheduled events and activities.
- Ensure the safety of participants during all activities.
- Conduct Tai Chi and QiGong well-being classes, either group or individual, to promote, preserve, or restore health and well-being.
- Provide informal input to the center supervisor concerning participant needs.
- Coordinate with the center supervisor on the use of Tai Chi and QiGong facilities for activities and develop a calendar of programs and activities.
- Develop marketing requests and advertising efforts for special events to encourage participation in Tai Chi and QiGong programs.
- Engage, encourage, and motivate students to reach their goals.
- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Age minimum 18 years.
- Current Tai Chi & Qigong Teacher Certificate.
- At least 1 year prior Tai Chi/QiGong experience, as well as coaching or instructional experience with adults, is preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in communicating with diverse communities and establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
- Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of principles, techniques, and methods of maintaining and using Tai Chi/QiGong apparatus.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to use tact and courtesy in dealing with the public.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate procedures and work processes and exercise appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and work methods.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and deal effectively and courteously with others, to work independently and in team settings.
- Moderate physical activity required, including handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds, standing, sitting, and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
