About the Role

The Volunteer Physician, under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, provides direct clinical care to patients at the health center as a member of the Care Team. This role focuses on delivering evidence-based, quality medical care to Zufall Health Center patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provides primary care, including diagnostic and therapeutic assessments, treatment of conditions and illnesses, referrals, follow-up, and other duties as assigned.
  • Ensures continuity of patient care.
  • Leads assigned clinical support staff to deliver excellent and accessible preventive, acute, and chronic care.
  • Participates in night and weekend call coverage on a rotational basis with other providers.
  • Assists with weekend, night, and early morning operations and adjusts schedule as needed.
  • Helps patients access community resources, referrals, and other services as clinically indicated.
  • Assists the Medical Director in coordinating services with local providers, hospitals, and laboratories.
  • Participates in clinical performance improvement activities and peer reviews of colleague’s charts.
  • Attends medical staff meetings and other necessary gatherings as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including maintaining current licensing, credentialing, and educational activities.
  • Contributes to and follows established clinical care policies and protocols.
  • Participates in community health initiatives, health fairs, and educational activities.
  • Engages in in-service educational programs and continuing education.
  • Teaches and trains other health center staff and students as needed.
  • Maintains membership in professional and organizational associations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board-certification in a primary care specialty (Internal Medicine, Combined Med/Peds, or Family Practice).
  • Successful completion of a residency program accredited by ACGME or AOA in a relevant specialty, or diplomat status from an American Board of Medical Specialists or AOA-approved certifying board.
  • Current, valid license to practice medicine in New Jersey in good standing.
  • Valid DEA and CDS registration.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical practice or direct patient care experience in an ambulatory care setting.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to relate well to a diverse group of patients and staff.
  • Willingness to work on an as-needed basis to meet operational needs.
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Bicultural and community health experience valued.
  • Ability to speak both English and Spanish strongly preferred.
