About the Role
As a Multimedia Journalist for MIMS, you will work directly within the Muncie community to listen to local voices, cover stories that matter, and promote public transparency. You'll receive tips, schedule interviews, file public records requests, and write articles. With our flexible, self-directed model, you can produce compelling community stories at a pace that respects your life and schedule.
Currently, this is a voluntary position.
Responsibilities
- Cover stories that impact the Muncie community
- Receive and follow up on tips from the community
- Schedule and conduct interviews
- File public records requests
- Write and produce articles
- Respond to community concerns via Tawk (shared newsroom email)
- Use Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Chat, Meet) to share work, conduct virtual interviews, and communicate with the team
- Cover events such as public meetings (with clear notice)
- Produce at least one story per month to remain active (unless waived by the Project Director for unforeseen circumstances)
Requirements
- Location in Muncie, Indiana
- A computer with internet access
- A cellphone or video camera
- Knowledge or willingness to learn Tawk for responding to community concerns
- Knowledge or willingness to learn Google Workspace (Google Drive, Docs, Chat, Meet)
- A love for communication
- Basic understanding of defamation, slander, and libel
