Volunteer Medical Driver / Escort for a visually-impaired neighbor in Worcester/Central MA
COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
In our COMMUNITY VOLUNTER PROGRAM, volunteers work one-to-one with visually impaired adults in their community, assisting with reading or shopping.
SUPPORT GROUPS
Elders with low vision can work with one of our VISION REHABILITATION SPECIALISTS to learn strategies for living with limited or no vision. Special focus on reading and writing, magnification, lighting, diabetes management, home safety and daily activities.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
- COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM - Assist visually impaired adults with reading or shopping.
- SUPPORT GROUPS - Share challenges and resources with peers.
- VISION REHABILITATION SPECIALISTS - Learn strategies for living with limited or no vision.
- MEDICAL DRIVER - Help legally blind or vision impaired persons attend medical appointments.
- DRIVER ESCORT - Drive clients to their appointments and guide them safely to the waiting area.
LOCATION AND REQUIREMENTS
MABVI's greatest need currently is for volunteers in the Boston region, and willingness to travel anywhere in the City of Boston. MABVI is appreciative of volunteer's willingness to travel a minimum of 10-15 miles.
COMPENSATION
A small per trip stipend is available for volunteer driver escorts.
TRAINING AND SUPPORT
Training and supervision is provided initially and ongoing as needed.
