About the role
Help Interns will be assigned to either the Criminal or Civil division within the United States Attorneys' Offices. The roles involve legal research, drafting pleadings and responses, and preparing appellate briefs. In the Criminal Division, interns assist with all phases of criminal prosecution, while in the Civil Division, they assist in civil litigation.
Responsibilities
- Legal research and drafting of pleadings and responses
- Preparation of appellate briefs
- Assistance in criminal prosecution phases including charging decisions, discovery, pretrial hearings, trials, sentencings, and habeas corpus actions
- Assistance in civil litigation phases including discovery, depositions, pretrial hearings, and trials
Requirements
- Student status: Must be a first, second, or third-year law student in good academic standing
- Grade point average: At least a 2.5 GPA
- Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen or national
- Background investigation: Must pass a background investigation
- Volunteer agreement: Must sign the Participant Agreement
Qualifications
- Must meet half-time student enrollment requirements
- Must submit a transcript or proof of enrollment with application
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement
