About the Opportunity

This is a volunteer design project for Climate House, a nonprofit creative think tank preparing for launch. We are developing a roving archive of visual language for web and print use, with a focus on creating "civic score graphics" that evoke civic participation as a creative and participatory practice.

Project Scope

  • Create 3-5 "civic score graphics" inspired by Fluxus visual works, adapted to communicate Climate House’s specific projects.
  • Design 3-5 corresponding prints for fundraising, brand, and program development purposes.
  • Develop organic shapes from the graphics that can be integrated into web navigation and other digital materials.

A Miro board will be shared to provide visual concepts as a starting point for collaboration.

About the Civic Score Series

The Climate House Civic Score series is an evolving collection of limited-edition artworks translating core policy platforms into poetic visual compositions. Each piece draws inspiration from experimental musical scores, using notation, rhythm, instruction, abstraction, and relational forms to evoke civic systems as culture, choreography, and collective composition. The series will be sold through the Climate House Concept Shop, a retail platform that extends program concepts while generating revenue for the organization and its collaborators.

Inaugural Civic Scores

  • Protecting Global Forests: WORD FOR WORLD: FOREST – A growing body of policy-integrated artworks, programs, and cultural experiences exploring our relationships with global forests as living civic partners.
  • Reclaiming Watersheds: BRADBAORI – Climate House’s inaugural Los Angeles project, addressing hydroclimate challenges across the LA watershed as part of the TOWARD A WATER COMMONS initiative.
  • Reclaiming Civic Authorship: CIVIC AUTHORSHIP SALONS & POLICY AS POETRY – Initiatives exploring artistic and communal approaches to governance, asserting that those most affected by policy should shape it.

Organizational Mission

Climate House is a creative think tank using the arts to illustrate actionable pathways forward. Our approach includes:

  • Mythos Embodied Climate – Reframing climate change as a universal, sensory experience rather than an abstract technical issue.
  • Universal Sensory Language – Communicating through shared sensory experiences to engage the public in climate solutions.
  • Culture-First – Designing audience-tailored, culture-driven programming to meet people where they are.
  • Show-Not-Tell – Creating experiential programs that allow audiences to feel and engage with actionable solutions.
