Volunteer - Chaplain, Sheriff's Office
About the role
This position provides non-denominational emotional support to Pinal County Patrol Deputies, Detention Deputies, Administrative staff members, and County employees. It also offers 24-hour service to the citizens of Pinal County during emergency or crisis situations involving the Sheriff's Office.
Responsibilities
- Exercise knowledge and judgment in analyzing facts or circumstances surrounding specific crisis issues and respond in an expansive spiritual manner.
- Exercise discretion and confidentiality in all situations.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and PCSO guidelines.
- Work as a probationary position for the first full year of service after completing required training/certification.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- A minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age, a United States citizen or legal resident.
- A valid Arizona Driver's License.
- Transportation.
- Proof of current auto insurance.
- Completion of the Ecclesiastic credential review.
- Completion of the PCSO Basic Volunteer Training Course.
- Certification through the PCSO Chaplaincy Training Course.
- Pass and complete background examination, as well as a Truth Verification Exam CVSA.
- Successfully complete oral interviews.
- Complete an initial ride-a-long with a PCSO Deputy and periodic ride-a-longs thereafter.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minister credentialed by a recognized ecclesiastic body, either ordained or licensed.
- Five years of leadership experience in a Church, Synagogue, Mosque, or other religious institution recognized as an organization gathered for the purpose of religious instruction according to the Internal Revenue Service Code 501C-3.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS: This is a voluntary unpaid position. Upon review and approval of your application, you will be contacted for an oral board interview. Commitment of one year of service for volunteer, commitment of one semester for interns, commitment of a minimum of 16 volunteer hours per month, on average, commitment to attend ongoing meetings, in-service training and education workshops. On-call status with respect to your hours of availability and location. Travel to the location of intervention. May be witness to stressful situations.

Salary and Benefits
The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications, and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval. All qualified candidates eligible to work in the United States are welcome to apply. However, visa sponsorship is not available. Pinal County does not participate in STEM Optional Practical Training (STEM OPT).
Pre-Employment Screening
Pinal County requires pre-employment screening, which includes a Motor Vehicle Record check, a comprehensive background check (encompassing employment, education, and criminal history), and drug testing for safety-sensitive roles. Criminal convictions do not automatically disqualify candidates from employment. Employment offers are contingent on successful pre-employment screening. If driving is a requirement of the position, you must have a valid Arizona State Driver's License in accordance with Arizona State Law.
