About the role
A non-exempt position under general direction, performing various semi-routine assignments with reasonable judgment. This role involves counseling individuals and providing group educational and vocational guidance services.
Responsibilities
- Transport consumers to and from special events, job site locations, and assigned evacuation areas as necessary, including assisting consumers into and out of vehicles.
- Train consumers in self-help skills, including:
- Personal care, organization, and communication.
- Meal assistance (eating, drinking).
- Health care, encouraging participation in physical activities (e.g., games, sports, exercise) unless contraindicated by medical assessment.
- Personal care (toileting, dressing, grooming).
- Behavior management (physical and/or verbal aggression) and vocational skills.
- Wellbeing (social skills, communication, leisure time).
- Maintain and submit daily, weekly, and quarterly data on consumers, including:
- Daily worksheets.
- Progress notes.
- Performance of individual program plans, goals, and objectives.
- Supervise and observe consumers to maintain safe conditions and prevent elopement.
- Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Set up work areas, prepare materials for training, and maintain a neat, clean, and orderly assigned space.
- Participate in the in-service training program and perform general maintenance of the center’s materials and equipment.
- Answer the telephone professionally, take accurate messages, and be knowledgeable about materials and equipment used in workstations.
- Adhere to storage and maintenance procedures for the center’s materials and equipment.
- Promote a cooperative and safe work environment by following CAL OSHA and ADA requirements, as well as the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
- Follow ARC Imperial Valley personnel policies and foster cooperative staff relationships.
- Maintain a harmonious, pleasant, and positive work environment by adhering to standards for undesirable conduct, including discrimination, sexual harassment, and alcohol/substance abuse.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including covering absences or balancing workloads in other functional areas.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- RBT Certification (preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions and deal with standardized situations with minimal variables.
- Current California Driver’s License with a clean DMV record.
- Ability to pass a Live Scan background check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain current CPR/First Aid certification.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Occasionally required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
Pay
$16.90 per hour.
