Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor I

About the role

HireAbility Vermont is seeking a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor I to support high school students and young adults with physical, psychological, or cognitive disabilities. The counselor will assist individuals in preparing for employment through assessments, guidance, and counseling, facilitating career exploration and work experiences. They will also help students transition from high school to identify post-secondary employment, education, and training options and engage in these activities.

Responsibilities

• Assess and counsel individuals with disabilities
• Facilitate career exploration and work experiences
• Identify and assist with post-secondary employment, education, and training options
• Collaborate with community providers
• Document cases and maintain records
• Work closely with local area high schools

Requirements

• Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, social work, special education, or a related counseling field
• Experience in human services casework, preferably with individuals with disabilities
• Proficiency in MS Office and video platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, Facetime, etc.)

Qualifications

• Pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position
• Commitment to securing graduate-level credits in specific courses within three years of hire

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational and time management abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of vocational counseling and assessment techniques
