Duties Description
Plan lessons and instruct and evaluate the performance and progress of learners who are in the charge of a state agency, in vocational and trades specialties. Instruction includes a verbal and written presentation of the theoretical along with demonstrations of practical applications of that theory. Deal with learners having a broad range of physical and mental aptitudes, abilities, interests, ages, and social and academic backgrounds, in addition to some physical, mental or emotional problems. Most learners in vocational program have demonstrated some interest in or ability to progress in a vocational program.

Responsibilities

Requirements
- VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR 1/SG-12:
- Four years of appropriate trade experience and a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized state educational authority.
- An associate’s degree in a related trade area and two years of appropriate trade experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in any area and one year of appropriate trade experience.
- VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR 2/SG-13:
- Four years of appropriate trade experience and a minimum of 9 college credits in pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program.
- These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: human development and learning; teaching students with disabilities and special health needs; and curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- An associate’s degree in a related trade area including or supplemented by 9 college credits of pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program.
- These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: human development and learning; teaching students with disabilities and special health needs; curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Two years of related trade experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in any area including or supplemented by 9 college credits of pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program.
- These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: human development and learning; teaching students with disabilities and special health needs; curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- One year of related trade experience.
- VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR 3/SG-15:
- Initial certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Education Department.
- VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR 4/SG-17:
- Professional certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Education Department.
- VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION COUNSELOR (MANUAL COMMUNICATION)/SG-19:
- A current Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) credential as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC).
- A master’s degree or higher in Rehabilitation Counseling.
- A master’s degree or higher in a related degree field* AND two years of professional work experience in a related field**.
