Vocal/General Music Teacher for the 2026-27 school year

Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Building Administrator, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students; and creating a flexible, diverse, culturally safe, and optimal learning environment. Provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

$44,500 (negotiable based on experience)

Schedule

• Full-time
• 10-month (works student calendar)
• 7 hour 40 minute day including a duty-free lunch of 35 minutes

Responsibilities

• Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives
• Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences in the area of music integrated with history and culture
• Identify and select different instructional class resources and methods to meet students' varying needs
• Encourage students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible
• Utilize repertoire of all types of music, including culturally diverse music
• Observe and evaluate students' performance and development in music
• High-level collaboration with Building Administrator to plan for school and public performances
• Promote a classroom environment that is culturally safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials according to NYS Standards
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and mastery of musical standards
• Modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed
• Instruct students in the principles of the "Spartan Way" and other subject matters
• Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending professional development opportunities
• Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws
• Encourage parent(s)/guardian involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and families
• Prepare students for and participate in performances, such as school concerts
• Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and district policies, and establish and maintain a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
• Coordinate with other professional staff members and participate in faculty meetings and committees
• Select and request appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment, and maintain inventory records
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Building Administrator and other District office administrators

Requirements

• NYS Certification in Music
• Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
• Master's degree in related area preferred
• Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus
• Experience working with a diverse population of students desired

Skills

• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
• Strong musical skill and proficiency on instrument/vocally
• Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
• Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed
• Ability to teach students of all ages
• Ability to organize and coordinate work
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents/guardians
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance, professional growth, and cultural awareness

Work Environment

• Works in standard office and school building environments
• Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone
• Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required
