About the role
The Vitamin/Body Care Assistant is responsible for assisting the Vitamin and Body Care Managers in the successful operation and profitability of the vitamin and body care departments.
Responsibilities
- Provide world-class customer service and a positive customer experience as the number one priority daily.

- Create inviting, full, and shopable departments.
- Assist department managers in ordering for vitamin and body care departments and maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Manage margin, drive sales, and improve department profitability, including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
- Ensure all in-stock products and conditions meet company standards.
- Offer and follow up on special orders.
- Merchandise shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays.
- Assist in managing and participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock.
- Assist in training and monitoring department personnel, including assigning and following up on tasks.
- Conduct active and passive demos.
- Work with department managers to address performance issues within the department.
- Support store opening and closing activities, including Daily Sales Report (DSR), cash handling, and cashier closeout responsibilities.
- Handle register functions, including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing customer complaints, and covering register shift changes.
- Maintain the safety and security of customers and employees.
- Answer customer questions per company standards and policies, including the use of Health Supportive Statements and/or statements of nutritional support.
- Continually increase product knowledge.
- Use SAP and inventory management software, email, and other IS programs as needed.
- Work a schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
This position requires working five days, 40 hours per week, and attending mandatory store meetings. Limited Manager on Duty responsibilities are included, but this role is never intended to be the overall Manager on Duty for the store. Employees are expected to be "hands-on" and do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Requirements
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- 1 year of experience in a grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
- 1 year of experience supervising others preferred.
- 1 year of experience in vitamins/supplements preferred.
- Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.
- Possess a sense of urgency in completing tasks.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Highly organized with great attention to detail.
- Ability to take direction and follow through.
- Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
